Instead, it will only waste energy. The thermostat will remain on the 70 degrees longer and will work for a longer time, especially if you forget. This is the same for the air conditioning system. This myth will cost you a lot of money.

2) Myth: Lowering the thermostat will not save much money

3) Myth: Hand washing dishes is better than using a dishwasher

Hand washing dishes may appear more economical as compared to using a dishwasher for the job, but you are most likely using more hot water than is used by your dishwasher.

Dishwashers nowadays are more efficient in using water and washing your dishes. So they are more economical.


4) Myth: Space heaters are more economical than central heating

You may think that using a space heater is more efficient, but that is usually not the case. This is because electric heaters use more energy than traditional heating systems.

5) Myth: Shutting off vents in unused rooms saves energy

You may think that shutting off the vents in unused rooms will save energy as the system will have to cool or heat less space. But you are wrong.

This is because when you close vents, the air pressure increases in the system, which makes it work more and use more power.

6) Myth: Leaving lights on instead of turning them on and off uses less energy.

Even though it is a fact that turning on a light will cause a burst of energy that is more than the light requires while on, this burst of energy only lasts for a fraction of a second, which when compared with the energy used when lights stay on is quite low, so leaving lights on can add up your energy bills. So it’s more energy efficient to close lights if you will not be using the room for quite some time.

7) Myth: electronics in sleep mode save electricity

You may not know it, but laptops and other electronic devices, when in sleep, are using significant amounts of energy. Many such devices are electricity suckers even when they are not in use.

Even when some of these devices are off, they continue to use energy. So always unplug your electronic appliances when not in use to avoid wasting much energy. You can install smart plugs to get rid of this inconvenience.
